There are many ways to reuse your old egg cartons, but I wanted to focus on the projects that were simple and gave the cartons a chance at a second life before being recycled. Many of these ideas let you use egg cartons instead of buying something for the same purpose.
So, instead of throwing away your empty egg cartons, here are 10 ways to reuse them.
Cushion ornaments. Eggs are delicate objects, as are Christmas ornaments. Thus, use your egg cartons to store your holiday decorations.
Seed starters. Fill the cups of an egg carton with soil and place a seed in each one. Once the seedlings have sprouted, simply snip each cup free and pop them straight into the soil. The cardboard will decompose as your garden grows.
Organize. Use the compartments to organize screws, buttons, jewelry, or other trinkets.
Paint palette. During craft time with the kids, use an egg carton as a paint palette. The individual cups are perfect for mixing colors. When the painting is done, simply toss them in the trash.
Transport cupcakes or other desserts. Keep those tasty mini muffins, cupcakes, and other sweets snug as a bug in an egg carton.
Store golf balls. What a great place to store extra golf balls. Easy to sort by brand and condition and they are stackable so they can be stored neatly.
Packing material. Cut up clean egg cartons to make lightweight packing material to protect fragile items in the mail.
