Sandra Beltran, pediatric infectious disease specialist of the Colombian Association of Infectious Diseases, says,
” Kissing on the lips is a focus transmitters of diseases.”
Some of these are cytomegalovirus, viral diseases that are spread through saliva.
A mother in Yorkshire alleges her newborn could have died after contracting oral herpes from a well-wisher. Many visitors came to see her after she gave birth, and one of them must have been a carrier of the herpes virus. The mother said that the visitor didn’t appear to have a cold sore at the time she held the newborn, Brooke. She noticed that Brooke had a cold sore and swollen lips while feeding her one night.
Ms. Henderson took her newborn to hospital straight away, and was told that she was right to take it seriously.
Brooke had sores on the back of her throat and had to be tested to see if she had brain or liver damage.
The newborn was put on anti-viral drip for five days, and is now doing well.
She warns other mothers to be careful of visitors kissing their newborns.
“Please share this with every new mum and pregnant woman you know… COLD SORES CAN BE FATAL FOR A BABY. Before three months old a baby cannot fight the herpes virus.
“If a baby contracts this it can cause liver and brain damage and lead to death. I know this sounds like I am scaremongering but if my friend had not told me about this my baby girl could have been very seriously ill.”
Newborns & children do not have the immune system to battle this kind of disease; moreover, this could turn into a life threatening to your baby and/or child. Affections can be demonstrated to your newborn and/or child in different ways. Avoid kissing your child on the lips, not only because this advices are legitimately done by professionals on healthcare industry, but also because by not doing this; means that you care about your newborn and/or child health.
